Why Choosing a Harness is Safer Than a Collar: Lessons from an Elevator Incident

In our daily lives, we often face many choices, some of which may seem insignificant but can have a huge impact on our lives and the lives we care about. A recent elevator incident involving a dog highlights a profound lesson: choosing a harness over a collar can help us avoid life-threatening situations.

Last weekend, my son took his furry friend, Lucky, for a walk. As they stepped into the elevator, my son held Lucky in his arms, forgetting to pick up the leash. This seemingly small oversight quickly turned into a potentially fatal danger.

As the elevator doors closed and began to ascend, Lucky's leash got caught in the door. The sudden tightening of the leash caused Lucky to be suspended above the elevator, with the floor buttons malfunctioning. In a panic, my son pressed the yellow emergency button, and it took property personnel ten minutes to rescue Lucky. Fortunately, Lucky was wearing a harness instead of a collar, which saved his life. The design of the harness allowed Lucky to maintain body balance, avoiding the risk of choking, and ultimately freeing him from danger.

This incident prompts us to consider why a harness is safer than a collar. Firstly, a harness can distribute tension, reducing pressure on the dog's neck. In contrast, a collar is more likely to choke or even fracture the dog's neck in unexpected situations. Secondly, the design of the harness enables the dog to better maintain balance, avoiding the risk of being trapped in sudden emergencies. Finally, harnesses are typically made of stronger, more durable materials, better able to withstand tension and protect the dog's safety.

In addition to individual safety, this story reminds us to pay attention to elevator safety issues. While elevators play an important role in our lives, they can also pose potential risks. Therefore, we need to constantly be vigilant about safety both inside and outside elevators, ensuring our own and others' safety.

In conclusion, choosing a harness over a collar is a safer option for our pets. This simple choice could save lives in critical moments. Let us take this as a lesson in our daily lives, paying attention to details, ensuring safety, and creating a safer environment for ourselves and our beloved pets.
